How to boil a menstrual cup

Cleaning a menstrual cup is important to keep your menstrual cup hygienic and safe to use. Boiling a menstrual cup is recommended before and after each menstrual cycle as it will disinfect your period cup. To do this, you have to options, either by using a saucepan or a microwave.

 

Cleaning a menstrual cup in a microwave

Boiling a menstrual cup in a microwave is a quick and easy option for disinfection your menstrual cup. Simply fill the Me Luna disinfection cup with water, submerge your Me Luna in the water, and bring to boil in the microwave.

 

Cleaning a menstrual cup in a saucepan

A good way to boil your menstrual cup is by slipping the reusable period cup in a whisk and submerge it in a pot of boiling water. The whisk will prevent your Me Luna sticking to the pot. However, you can also place the sanitary cup it in the pot itself. In this case make sure you have enough water in the saucepan so that your Me Luna does not touch the bottom.

PLEASE NOTE: Me Luna menstrual cups should never be boiled dry or touch the bottom of the pot, as they will melt! Don’t leave the pot unattended!

 

How long to boil a menstrual cup?

If you are using a microwave,set it to 500-800 watts for approx. 5 minutes, or 850-1200 watts for approx. 3 minutes.

When boiling a menstrual cup in a saucepan we recommend to fully submerge the cup in boiling water for 3-5 minutes. We recommend using a timer so you don’t forget its on the stove.
